Supreme Court to hear new case on religion in public life

Supreme Court to hear new case on religion in public life

2. Category: Religion
3. Level: Local
4. The article concerns with a new case in the Supreme Court to evaluate an unconstitutional act by a chairman after a concluding a prayer with “Allah-u-Abha,” (God-All Glorious). The chairman was in a council meeting in Greece, NY and violated Constitutional acts of endorsing religion.
5. How does the article affect individuals?
The article exemplifies the hardship to express religious views in the public eye. The article goes on the state how even though the congregation with majority of Christians, the council meeting prayer ending still violated Constitution’s prohibition against government endorsement of religion. This showcases it can affect any individual and not just like in this case a chairman stating one religious prayer. As like with the school prayer in grade school having to take out the “Under God” part. It affects any religious group making one comment or remark that ties into their religion if in a public facility that exploits any government work.
6. My views:
I feel that the Chairman definitely deserves to have a court hearing to express his right as an American. Even though the cases exemplifies he was in a position to endorse religion in a government act, he did not. I see nothing wrong with the Chairman cited his prayer in a public sector that involved other members in which who also contain same religious background. I understand religion should not be only sought out as just one type that all should abide by, I just feel that there should not be any punishment if one expresses there religious prayer in a public surrounding.
