1. FAA eases gadget policy, but will the new rules fly?
USA Today, 10A, 11/1/2013

2. National Policy

3. This policy would affect individuals who fly with airlines.

4. Because of popular demand, airlines might change policy regarding use of electronics during flights.

5. I don't understand what the big deal about not being able to use your electronic device for relatively short periods of time is. People have become so attached to the internet and social media that they act like it's going to kill them to not have access for a couple of hours. Granted, it would be nice to have something to keep you busy, but that's why they have movies and music available. Also, people can use their ebook devices as far as I know, but they need to plan ahead and have the book already downloaded and keep their device on airplane mode.

  1. In my opinion, people are being quite ridiculous. I do not understand what the big deal is about not having your phone for a few hours. That is what is wrong with this world. We cannot sit still or even hold a conversation with the person next to us for a little while. I just do not think that anyone will miss out on anything that important while sitting on a plane for a short while. Just as SAsproutie mentioned, everyone has gotten so attached to their wireless devices and it is a problem. I think it is more than an addiction, it is making people become nonsocial.
I do get that a plane can be boring at times and you want to listen to music or something. That is all good, but if the flight attendants cannot trust that everyone has their phones in airplane mode and that is risky. The ridiculous part to me is that people are willing to break the rules to not be bored for an hour or two. Maybe the rules haven't been updated because they still are unsure of the risks associated the interference between cell phones and radio waves. If you ask me, I would much rather have a safe flight and not have to worry about my cell phone being the reason the pilot cannot talk to directors on the ground while land the plane with 100 other people on it.
Sometimes I worry about what our world is coming to. If you think about it, 15 years ago we would not have even thought about bringing our cell phones on a plane or even being able to listen to music on a wireless device. Everything around us has changed so much. I think there are rules for a reason and people should stop pushing them to be changed. I do not think it is ridiculous to ask someone to put away their phones while on a flight. I actually think we need to. Sometimes people need to be forced out of the electronic world to just relax and not be so worried about what is going on in the media world. Talk to friend or make a new one. This issue brings up more than just problems about flight safety. People need to slow down and put the devices down for a few hours of their lives.
