30 Year Sentence for Rape of Bird Watcher in Park

1. 30 Year Sentence for Rape of Bird Watcher in Park,
The New York Times, October 17th, 2013 Pg. A27

2. New York City, New York.

3. Sexual Assault

4. A drifter with a history of assault raped a 74 year old woman in Central Park. He was sentenced to 30 years in prison, and eligible for parole in 25 years. After avoiding sentencing for several other assaults, "He finally met his match." and "pleaded guilty to rape in the first degree, as well as sexually motivated robbery in the second degree."

5. In what cruel world does somebody who is charged with raping an 86 year old woman and killing her get acquitted, then goes on to attack another woman in her 70's, only to be freed with a plea bargain...And somehow, even with that record, when he was sentenced to jail for abducting his ex-girlfriend, he only got 8 years in jail. Would he have been treated more harshly and sentenced to prison for raping and murdering the 86 year old if she had been a teenager or young woman? This isn't only about our society not protecting the elderly or putting enough value on their lives, but somehow a serial rapist is let free to roam the country, even after we're made aware of his actions. What the h*** is wrong with our justice system?
It's unfortunate that there was yet another victim, but it's good that she is a strong-willed woman who put the bastard in his place.
