In State Records, Little Evidence to Back Abortion Law

2. Category: Medical

3. Level: National

4. This article concerns a new abortion law that has higher standards.

5. This new abortion law will have higher standards for hospitals that include annual inspections or an inspection every three years due to malpractices. However, there is little evidence that proves there is any wrongdoing.

6. I believe that because abortion is such a risky procedure it should be taken seriously. But this law is kind of like a double-edged sword. The standards are meant to keep women safe but then the law may cause hospitals to shut their doors making it harder for women to access a place for the procedure. If women don't have a close resource for the procedure they might try to perform the abortion themselves which becomes more dangerous. I believe in this new law to make standards higher. There have been instances where the medical staff couldn't follow through with infection control procedures because they were not trained on how to recognized problems with the sterilization machine when it wasn't working properly. That could have caused major problems for the women who had procedures at that hospital. The bigger picture is to help women have safer procedures and it's something that I support.
